What we do
IRCU interventions focus on HIV/AIDS, peace building, democracy and good goverance, human rights, humanitarian emergencies, environmental conservation, gender equality and advocacy. Currently, only HIV/AIDS, Peace and National Transformation Programs are being implemented.HIV/AIDS Program
The HIV/AIDS Program aims at strengthening the faith based response to HIV/AIDS by scaling up access to and utilization of quality HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment services in Uganda. Currently the HIV/AIDS program is implemented through sub-grants to 75 faith-based organizations spread in 32 districts.

Prevention
The HIV prevention interventions mainly focus on promotion of Abstinence and Being faithful of the ABC plus strategy. Our prevention program employs a faith based approach built on the five pillars namely, belief in God, acquiring and using HIV and AIDS scientific knowledge, using relevant faith teachings and best practices , using religious leaders and their structures to disseminate messages and upholding self control skills.

Orphans and Vulnerable Children program
IRCU supports 38 faith based organizations to provide care and support services to orphans and vulnerable children. The Breaking Barriers project aims to expand equitable, effective and high quality OVC Programs in Education, Psycho-Social Support and Home based Care for children and families affected by HIV/ AIDS using school networks and Religious Institutions. Breaking Barriers project is implemented by IRCU in the districts of Kamuli, Luwero and Tororo in partnership with Save the Children Uganda and Plan International.
Clinical Services
The Palliative Care program provides relief from suffering and to improve the quality of life for both patients and their immediate families through a faith based mechanism. Our Care and treatment package include diagnosis of HIV infection through counseling and testing, provision of prophylaxis and treatment of opportunistic infection, TB and integrated HIV services, Anti-Retroviral Therapy(ART), Home Based and Psychosocial care. Logistics Management
As part of its activities to ensure adequate supplies of medicines and other in-kind items to faith based organizations, IRCU works closely with Supply Chain Management Systems, Joint Medical Stores and Ministry of Health ( activate) to provide the necessary
logistical support to ensure uninterrupted access to care and treatment services. These partnerships not only collaborative interventions but drug cross donations and stock out management. Facility based personnel are thus trained in logistics management, planning, quantification and procurement of medicines, storage, distribution and reporting.
IRCU’s Supply Chain Management Cycle.
IRCU supply chain management oversees product selection, forecasting, quantification and stock monitoring of essential care and treatment services where as procurement and storage and handled in partnership with Supply Chain Management Systems (SCMS) and Joint Medical Stores respectively.
Peace, Human Rights and Good Governance

The Peace, human rights and good governance program aims at enhacing the work of IRCU member organizations and to link pratice with policy on peacebuilding, conflict transformation, human rights and good goverance for transformation of society. The program is implemented under the Access to Justice and Legal Aid project, Peace and National Reconciliation program and the Deepening Democracy program. Read more...
