STAR EAST PROJECT
IRCU partners with the Management Sciences for Health (MSH), National Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS (NACWOLA) and the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) to deliver HIV/AIDS services in Eastern Uganda under the STAR-E project.

The STAR -Project is a five-year (2009- 2014) USAID/Uganda District Based HIV/AIDS TB program. The districts covered by the project are Budaka, Bududa,Bukwo, Busia, Butaleja, Kapchorwa, Pallisa, and Sironko (8 out of 80 districts in Uganda, or 10% as per the UBOS in March 2009).

The project strives to: -
(i) increase uptake of comprehensive HIV/TB services within supported districts,

(ii) strengthen decentralized public and private service delivery systems,

(iii) deliver quality HIV/TB services through facilities and communities,

(iv) strengthen networks and referral systems, and

(v) increase the demand for comprehensive HIV & AIDS/TB prevention, care, and treatment services.

Under this partnership, IRCU is strengthening its role as a major HIV/AIDS service provider as well as enhancing the contribution of Faith based organizations in the delivery of the badly needed services in TB and HIV/AIDS in the Eastern Uganda. This partnership is promoting synergy and ultimately is increasing the number of individuals accessing TB and HIV/AIDS. The role of IRCU under the project is to:

Build capacity of FBOs fro increased HIV/AIDS service delivery

Creation of demand for HIV/AIDS services by using religious leaders and structures to enhance
    mobilization and acceptability of services

To deliver care in homes where the majority of the patients live and

To continue coaching and mentoring FBOs in eastern Uganda so that the program is sustained even
    after funding.
