Clergy join the Obudhingiya to celebrate their second coronation anniversary

Religious leaders led by the Archbishop of Gulu Diocese, His Grace John Baptist, and The Elders’ Forum of Uganda (TEFU) represented joined the Obudhingiya Bwa Bwamba to celebrate the second coronation anniversary of Omudhingiya Wa Bwamba.
His highness Omudhingiya, Martin Kamya Ayongi, celebrated his second coronation on 30th May, 2016, at Kawamara memorial square in Bundibugyo town.
The occasion was held at a time when the region is recovering from unrest and tensions that broke out during and after the 2016 general elections. Media reports indicated that over 40 people lost their lives during the crisis and hundreds were displace.
Speaking at the event, His Grace, John Baptist Odama, who is also the Chair of the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) Peace, Justice and Governance Committee, urged the kingdom to continuously maintain a non-partisan, impartial and independent stance in order to contribute to national development, peaceful coexistence and stability
“A cultural leader belongs to all the people resident within the jurisdiction of his territorial boundaries. Therefore, all the people under his jurisdiction should enjoy equal treatment and feel a sense of belonging,” Odama said.

Between 12th and 15th April, 2016, IRCU and TEFU paid a solidarity and compassionate visit to the people of Rwenzori sub-region, following the numerous attacks against civilians and armed forces; specifically in the Districts of Kasese and Bundibugyo.
Following the same visit, religious leaders and TEFU witnessed the signing of a joint communique between the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu and Obudhingiya Bwa Bamba over which they were given custody. The communique was an agreement between the two kingdoms on how they will work together to promote peace and stability in the Rwenzori region.

In his speech, the Prime minister, of the Obusinga, Hon. Wilson Mubulya, commended the people for their undying love for the institution and the ever growing energetic work force. According to Hon. Mubulya, the kingdom has registered tremendous achievements amongst which includes lobbying for over 50 year’s scholarships for students from the kingdom from universities around the country.
