CONDOLENCE MESSAGE ON THE DEATH OF THE SPEAKER OF THE 11TH PARLIAMENT OF UGANDA, RT. HON. JACOB OULANYAH
His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni
President
Republic of Uganda
Your Excellency,
CONDOLENCE MESSAGE FROM THE INTER-RELIGIOUS COUNCIL OF UGANDA ON THE DEATH OF THE SPEAKER OF THE 11TH PARLIAMENT OF UGANDA, RT. HON. JACOB OULANYAH
The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) Council of Presidents (COPs) received with great shock the untimely death of Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah L’Okori, which occurred on Sunday, March 20, 2021 in Seattle, the United States of America (USA).
On behalf of the IRCU Council of Presidents and the entire religious fraternity in Uganda, the African Council of Religious Leaders (ACRL), and indeed, Religions for Peace International (RfP), I wish to convey our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah L’Okori.
Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah will be remembered for his sense of humour, punctuality, candidness, charisma and level-headedness. He was an intelligent lawyer, a patriotic citizen and an outstanding debater since his secondary school student days. As a peace lover, he played a central role in the search for peace during the LRA war that raged on in northern Uganda for almost two decades.
It is noteworthy that the late Rt. Hon. Oulanyah featured among the prominent stakeholders that the IRCU team interacted with in pursuit of the Uganda National Dialogue (UND) process. There is no doubt that we immensely gained from his guidance and wise counsel. Notably, he deeply appreciated Uganda’s political history and the ethos of the national dialogue; a cradle of peace, justice, democracy and inclusive development in the evolving Uganda we Want.
We praise the Almighty for his service to humanity and the many lives he touched during his life here on earth. All of us at IRCU will dearly miss him.
We earnestly pray that the family of Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah finds solace and comfort in the Lord Himself during this moment of grief.
“Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness” (James. 3: 18 NIV).
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN ETERNAL PEACE!
Yours sincerely,
The Most Rev. Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu
